As part of the South Yarra Station upgrade, from Friday 18 June 2021 we will introduce changes to traffic turning movements at the intersection of Yarra Street and Toorak Road as part of a 12-month trial.

From this date vehicles will only be able to turn left out of Yarra Street onto Toorak Road. The trial will ban right turns in and out of Yarra Street, as well as the left turn in.

The trial is a result of significant community feedback received during the tram stop design consultation in mid-2019, which raised safety concerns for pedestrians crossing the Yarra Street and Toorak Road intersection.

The trial will begin once the tram stop upgrade is complete and aims to help improve pedestrian safety at this busy location. We are working closely with Stonnington City Council to deliver this 12-month trial.

To understand the impact of the changed traffic conditions at the Yarra Street and Toorak Road intersection we will continue to seek community feedback throughout the trial duration.

More information about the South Yarra Station and tram stop upgrade is available at the South Yarra upgrade website.

Next steps

The consultation will close on 18 June 2022. Once the trial ends, we will share the outcome with the community and continue to work closely with Stonnington City Council on the next steps.
