The Metro Tunnel Project will create a new end-to-end rail line from Sunbury to Cranbourne / Pakenham, with high capacity trains and signalling and five new underground stations.
As part of the project, the Rail Infrastructure Alliance is building the western entrance to the Metro Tunnel in Kensington (Western Portal).
The alliance is seeking an amendment to its existing Western Portal Development Plan to progress construction of rail services buildings to deliver vital communications and signalling infrastructure for the Metro Tunnel.
The proposed amendment also includes:
- minor landscaping and design changes along Childers Street
- addition of a small area of Childers Street east of South Kensington station into the Development Plan area to enable access to the rail corridor for maintenance as required
- flood plain management / protection alongside rail corridor
- editorial updates to reflect proposed amendments
The proposed Development Plan amendment was available for comment from Monday 4 May 2020 to Monday 25 May 2020.
The Rail Infrastructure Alliance will consider feedback provided during public display and include all community and stakeholder comments as part of a consultation report which summarises and responds to submissions made.
This report will be provided to the Minister for Planning when he receives a copy of the draft amendment for consideration. We will respond to all submissions as part of this process.
The Minister for Planning must approve proposed amendments to the RIA Western Portal Development Plan before the draft changes can be implemented.
The draft amendments to the Western Portal Development Plan pertain to the updates listed above. They do not affect current and ongoing works that have existing planning approval.
