Overview

The redevelopment of Tarakan Street in Heidelberg West will replace old social housing that has reached the end of its lifespan with well designed, attractive homes that improve the local area.

The design proposes a combination of townhouses and apartments in a series of new buildings. The redevelopment will provide 130 dwellings.

Previous feedback

In 2020, we asked for your feedback on our draft masterplans.

The revised plan has resulted in masterplan re-alignment works that significantly reduced the scope of the works. A decision was made in September 2020 to place the proposed Bell Bardia site development on hold and reduce the project scope to focus primarily on Tarakan Street.

The revised plans directly respond to the items raised from the community feedback during community engagement in 2020.

How to get involved

We’ll facilitate the conversation with you during construction through our question and answer tool. There will also be consultation opportunities along the way.

In delivering the Tarakan Street Project, we want to minimise the inconvenience and impacts of the construction on local communities and the environment. All work will be carefully planned and managed to make sure residents can continue to enjoy where they live.

We're managing construction impact to the surrounding area by controlling these themes:

  • air quality
  • construction noise and vibration
  • impact on trees and the natural environment
  • contaminated soil and replacing it with clean soil
  • property conditions to neighbouring homes
  • respite and noise management for residents during construction

During construction, we:

  • outline how contractors will manage impacts and provide support in a continuity plan
  • communicate in a timely and regular manner with businesses and residents including works notifications
  • support businesses during construction
  • maintain access to residents and businesses for customers, vehicles and deliveries
  • manage noise, dust, vibration and overall amenity
  • provide a range of support measures
