The preferred locations for six new underground train stations for Stage One of Suburban Rail Loop have been identified at Cheltenham, Clayton, Monash, Glen Waverley, Burwood and Box Hill.
Extensive planning and design work, geotechnical investigations and engineering assessments, as well as stakeholder consultation, have determined the preferred locations for the six new underground stations.
The refined Stage One alignment includes proposed stations near Southland Shopping centre, adjacent to Monash and Deakin universities, central to the Glen Waverley and Box Hill activity centres, and a transport super-hub station north of Carinish Road in Clayton to connect regional passengers to the loop.
These six new underground stations will be linked by twin 26-kilometre rail tunnels serviced by a dedicated fleet of quick, high-tech trains to transform how people move around Melbourne.
Frequent and easy to use services will help passengers get where they need to go, whether it’s for school, work, shopping or sport. You won’t need a timetable for your journey – just turn up and go.
Major infrastructure projects like the city and state-shaping Suburban Rail Loop require extensive statutory approvals.
Stage One will be subject to an Environment Effects Statement (EES) – our State’s most comprehensive and transparent environmental assessment process.
The EES will assess potential impacts on people and places associated with Stage One. Supported by a range of technical studies and assessments, the EES will carefully consider potential environmental, heritage, urban design, traffic and transport, business, social and land use impacts.
The EES for Stage One of Suburban Rail Loop needs to be assessed and project approvals granted before major construction can begin.
As part of preparing the EES, we want to hear your feedback on Stage One, including areas, design considerations and construction impacts that are important to you.
Your feedback will enable us to give you the information that’s most relevant to you and will help us ensure that community feedback continues to help us shape Suburban Rail Loop’s planning and design.
