Road Safety is a key and ongoing focus for the Victorian Government. The Victorian Government is committed to reducing unnecessary regulatory burden.
In line with this, the Department of Transport is reviewing the Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations Interim Regulations 2020. The Regulations are being reviewed, as under the Road Safety Act 1986 they are automatically revoked on the tenth anniversary of their making.

How to participate
A regulatory impact statement in relation to the proposed Regulations was made available for public comment from 11 June 2021 until 8 July 2021. Consultation has now closed. Thank you to everyone who took the time to submit feedback.
After consideration of the submissions received the Minister for Roads and Road Safety has decided to proceed with the making of the proposed Regulations with some amendments.
A statement of reasons is published below outlining amendments and final Regulations.
The Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 2021 will come into effect on 30 September 2021.
