Project design feedback results

During March 2021, we shared the project’s draft designs with the the local community and people who regularly travel along Narre Warren North Road. We received some valuable feedback, which will help us to further refine and finalise the project designs.

Access changes

To improve safety and reduce the risk of crashes, we’ll install safety barriers and make some changes to the way you travel along Narre Warren North Road. Once the upgrade is complete, you’ll only be able to turn left-in and left-out of most properties along Narre Warren North Road. Similar to other duplicated roads, right turns and u-turns will only be possible at intersections with traffic lights or designated turning facilities.

Access changes to Crawley Road

Once the upgrade is complete, Crawley Road will become left-in and left-out only. You’ll no longer be able to turn right into Crawley Road from Narre Warren North Road. Instead, you’ll need to continue north along Narre Warren North Road past Crawley Road and make a U-turn at Belgrave-Hallam Road.

To exit Crawley Road and travel north along Narre Warren North Road towards Heatherton Road, you’ll need to first turn left onto Narre Warren North Road then perform a U-turn at the new U-turn lane in front of Japara Aged Care Facility.

Access changes to Brundrett Road

Right turns will be banned from Brundrett Road onto Narre Warren North Road once the upgrade is complete. Instead, you’ll need to turn left onto Narre Warren North Road and make a U-turn at the traffic lights at Ernst Wanke Road.

You’ll still be able to turn right into Brundrett Road from Narre Warren North Road. Access changes We’re upgrading Narre Warren North Road between Fox Road and Belgrave-Hallam Road to make your journey safer and more reliable.

While it may mean that you’ll need to travel a bit further to get where you need to go, your journey will be safer and more reliable once the upgrade is complete.

Heavy vehicle access

To improve safety and reduce the risk of crashes, we’re making some changes to the way heavy vehicles access some local roads. These changes apply to vehicles that are longer than 8.8m such as most trucks, waste vehicles, buses, and B Doubles.

Changes to Crawley and Brundrett roads

Once the upgrade is complete, Crawley Road will become left-in and left-out only. Right turns from Brundrett Road onto Narre Warren North Road will also be banned. Instead, large vehicles will need to detour via Fox Road and Belgrave-Hallam Road.

We expect this will add approximately 3 to 4 minutes to your journey.

Walking and cycling paths

As part of the upgrade, we’re making it safer and easier to walk and cycle around Narre Warren North Road.

New walking and cycling paths

We’ll build a new footpath on the east side of Narre Warren North Road between Memorial Drive and Randle Court. This will connect with the existing footpath at Memorial Drive and allow pedestrians and horse riders to walk or ride on the east side of the road between Randle Court and Ernst Wanke Road.

We’ll upgrade the existing shared walking and cycling path on the west side of Narre Warren North Road between Memorial Drive and Heatherton Road. This section is quite steep, so we’ll flatten and widen the path and apply a slip resistant surface so that it’s more easily accessible for people with mobility challenges.

Improving safety

As part of the upgrade, we’ll make it safer to walk, cycle and ride by installing extra kerbside safety barriers to protect pedestrians and off-road cyclists. We’ll also install more streetlights to make it safer to walk and cycle at night.

New traffic lights and pedestrian crossings at the Memorial Drive and Narre Warren North Road intersection, and priority crossings at the Ernst Wanke Road intersection will make it safer to cross the road.
