Melbourne Airport Rail is a transformational public transport project connecting Melbourne Airport with a rail service for the first time.
Trains will run from a new station at Melbourne Airport via a new transport superhub at Sunshine Station, where it will then travel through the Metro Tunnel into the heart of the CBD before continuing on to the Cranbourne/Pakenham lines.
New dedicated rail tracks will be constructed along the existing Albion-Jacana freight corridor between Sunshine and Airport West. The tracks will then cross the Western Ring Road (M80) and head towards the airport following Airport Drive, before arriving at a new train station at Melbourne Airport.
This route delivers the best connections from Melbourne Airport to the regions and suburbs for all Victorians, getting people to where they want to go with easy transfers to all regional lines and trips into the heart of the CBD in around 30 minutes.
30 stations will have direct access to Melbourne Airport without needing to change trains.
The first phase of our consultation was held between December 2020 and March 2021. The feedback gathered from the community included what they loved about their areas, and what concerns they had about Melbourne Airport Rail both during construction and after it is completed. More information on what we heard is available here.
In our second phase of consultation as part of the ongoing planning and design development process for Melbourne Airport Rail, we invited the community to submit feedback on key parts of the project.
These areas were:
- Sunshine Station transport superhub
- Albion flyover and station works
- Bridge over the Maribyrnong River Valley
- Bridge over the Western Ring Road (M80)
- Shared use overpass in Sunshine North
We also asked the community to tell us what is most important to consider around potential construction impacts and our proposed measures to help minimise these during construction.
Your feedback is an important part of planning and developing Melbourne Airport Rail.
The survey responses will be fed into our planning and design teams to ensure community insights are taken into consideration for Melbourne Airport Rail.
This helps us deliver a project that benefits all Victorians.
