On behalf of the Victorian Government, the Level Crossing Removal Project is removing 75 dangerous and congested level crossings across Melbourne by 2025.

The Werribee Street, Werribee level crossing will be removed by building a new rail bridge over Werribee Street. The rail bridge will allow for both freight and passenger trains and will be about one kilometre long.

Werribee Street is an important gateway between Werribee and Wyndham Vale and is surrounded by homes, businesses and parklands.

Why we’re elevating the rail line

Minimal disruptions

As there is space next to the rail line for ‘offline’ construction, we can do more works without having to disrupt an important national freight service and local road users.

Future rail plans

This design will allow for potential future expansion of the rail line.

Less environmental impacts

The long ramps required for heavy freight trains can be built without impacting Werribee River.

New community spaces

The new rail bridge design enhances the significant upgrades that are already underway at Wyndham Park and will open the space below the rail line for the community to enjoy.

We heard from the community that you would like to see more trees, natural landscaping and a design that links to parks along the river.

Next steps

We will soon start preparing the area for construction, with site compounds including temporary offices, equipment, storage areas and workforce parking. We will also install temporary fencing around the project area to maintain safety, as well as relocate utility services including water and electricity.
