On behalf of the Victorian Government, the Level Crossing Removal Project is removing 75 dangerous and congested level crossings across Melbourne by 2025.

The Toorak Road, Kooyong level crossing was removed in April 2020 by building a rail bridge over the road.

The level crossing was removed 6 months ahead of schedule, following major works starting in September 2019.

Around 37,000 vehicles travelled through the Toorak Road level crossing every day, with boom gates down for 35 per cent of the morning peak.

Removing the major bottleneck reduces congestion and improves safety for those travelling through the area.

New and improved walking and cycling paths will also be created as part of the project, connecting nearby parklands.
