UPDATE: This survey is now closed.

We’re removing 2 of Melbourne’s dangerous and congested level crossings and building a new premium station.

With early works underway and major works to start in 2022, we’re looking for community members to form the project’s Construction Liaison Group (CLG).

The CLG will provide local perspectives and insights throughout the construction phase of the project.

While it has no formal decision-making power, the CLG will ensure that local communities are informed on issues that may impact them during construction.

The CLG will:

  • work collaboratively with the project team to inform their networks and local community about construction-related project information
  • provide a local perspective on how to manage unavoidable construction impacts.

The CLG will consist of volunteer community members who represent the views and interests of residents, business owners and community organisations.

The CLG will focus on project construction matters. Meetings will not be a forum to discuss designs.

We expect members of the CLG to participate in meetings held every 8 to 10 weeks from late 2021 to late 2022 or early 2023.

How to participate

To apply for the Surrey Hills and Mont Albert CLG, you must be at least 2 of the following:

  • involved in the wider community
  • endorsed by a local organisation (if representing one)
  • an active member of the community, with strong networks
  • committed to helping share accurate information about construction impacts
  • knowledgeable about the community’s social, environmental and economic influences
  • aware of and sensitive to the local issues relevant to the project.

You must also be willing and able to:

  • contribute positively to meetings in a fair and unbiased manner
  • look beyond personal interests for the benefit of the community
  • encourage participation from and provide unbiased feedback to the community about the project
  • constructively participate in an advisory capacity
  • commit to the CLG for the time required.

As part of the Code of Conduct, you must agree to:

  • circulate all nominated project information provided by the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) with relevant community networks
  • promote all project communication channels with relevant community networks
  • notify LXRP of any actual or potential conflict of interest that may arise in relation to the project during your participation in the CLG
  • allow LXRP to publicly promote CLG activities in order to facilitate and encourage community feedback
  • not share confidential information discussed at the CLG meetings as advised by the chair, co-chair, such as issues of a sensitive commercial or conceptual nature
  • not make any media comment in relation to the project on behalf of the CLG, unless you receive prior approval by the chair or co-chair in consultation with LXRP’s Director of Strategic Communications.

To apply to be part of the Surrey Hills and Mont Albert CLG, please complete the application form below.

Applications close 11.59pm Sunday 21 November 2021.

Next steps

We will review each nomination to the CLG and ensure the members chosen represent the Mont Albert and Surrey Hills community – meaning culturally diverse communities, disabled representatives and senior and younger generations will all have a voice on the CLG.

Once your nomination has been reviewed, we will email you to inform you of the outcome.
