CLOSED: This consultation has concluded.

We’ll be delivering new community open spaces as part of the Preston Level Crossing Removal Project. Shared walking and cycling paths will connect the new open space precincts to each other and the two new stations at Bell and Preston.

You’ve already told us that feeling safe, improved walking and cycling paths, less congestion and more community spaces were your top priorities.

We’re now inviting you to share your ideas on how you’d like Preston’s newest open spaces to be developed.

To help you we’ve put together:

  • Project fact sheets that provide you with information about the project and explain why we’re removing the level crossing by rail over and key considerations
  • Open space inspiration that show images of what we’ve done on other level crossing removal projects.
  • Online video presentations with the project manager to answer most of your frequently asked questions.
  • Project area map that shows a few more details of the project area as planning has progressed.

We’ll report our findings back to you and we’ll also present the findings to the Preston Open Space Advisory Panel (POSAP).

Feedback closes 5pm Wednesday 6 May 2020.

Preston open space feedback map

This map of the Preston Level Crossing Removal Project area is designed for you to share your ideas and provide feedback on how you’d like the new open spaces to be developed.

We want you to tell us what you’d like to see in the new community spaces.

You can do this by dragging and dropping a pin on the map to show what you’d like to see where. Each coloured pin represents a different idea. Alternatively, if you have your own idea you can make a comment.

  • Playgrounds
  • Plants and gardens
  • Pet parks
  • Exercise stations
  • Sport and recreation play areas
  • Barbecues
  • Park seating area
  • Your own idea

It is important to note that we’ll need some of the land under the two kilometre rail bridge to:

  • develop station precincts at Bell and Preston
  • reinstate car parking
  • provide space for services that are essential to train operations
  • allow safe access areas for facility maintenance.

Feedback will also be considered along with local constraints including:

  • the narrow rail corridor and properties in close proximity to the rail line
  • drainage basins required along the rail corridor
  • being consistent with Darebin City Council’s development plan for Preston.

We’ll report our findings back to you in mid 2020 and they’ll also form the basis of our discussions with the Preston Open Space Advisory Panel.

Submissions close 5pm Wednesday 6 May 2020.
