We’re removing the level crossing at McGregor Road, Main Street and Racecourse Road in Pakenham by building a 2.5 kilometre rail bridge over the roads. By building an elevated rail line the project will create 125,000 square metres of new community open space for locals to enjoy.

As part of the project, we’re also building new stations at Pakenham and East Pakenham, and designs for the new stations have been released.

Removing these dangerous level crossings gives us the opportunity to revitalise local community precincts and increase connections across Pakenham. You’ve already told us that feeling safe, improved walking and cycling paths, less congestion and more community spaces are your top priorities.

You’re now invited to give feedback on how you would like to use Pakenham’s new open space and what you think we should include or consider in its design.

How to participate

To give feedback on how you would like to use Pakenham’s new open space and what you think we should include or consider in the design:

  • leave comments on our online map
  • complete the survey below.

Feedback closes 5pm Friday 5 November 2021.

Next steps

We will review your feedback and incorporate your ideas into the open space designs, which we’ll release in 2022.

Pakenham open space feedback map

This map of the Pakenham Level Crossing Removal Project area is designed for you to share your ideas and provide feedback on what you’d like to see in the new community open space and how you’d like the new open spaces to be designed.

Drag and drop a pin to the map to show what you’d like to see where. Alternatively, if you have your own idea you can make a comment on:

  • Playgrounds
  • Plants and gardens
  • Pet parks
  • Exercise stations
  • Sport and recreation play areas
  • Barbecues
  • Park seating area
  • Your own idea

It’s important to note that we’ll need some of the land under the rail bridge to:

  • develop the new Pakenham premium station
  • reinstate car parking
  • provide space for services that are essential to train operations
  • allow safe access areas for facility maintenance.

Feedback will also be considered along with local constraints including:

  • the narrow rail corridor and properties near the rail line
  • drainage basins required along the rail corridor
  • being consistent with Cardinia Shire Council’s development plan for Pakenham.

Submissions close 5pm Friday 5 November.
