On behalf of the Victorian Government, the Level Crossing Removal Project is removing 75 dangerous and congested level crossings across Melbourne by 2025.

We are getting rid of the dangerous and congested level crossings at Bell Street, Reynard Street and Munro Street in Coburg and Moreland Road in Brunswick, by raising the rail over road.

The project will deliver new community open spaces, improved cycling and pedestrian connections, and new Coburg and Moreland station precincts.

As we develop detailed designs, we want to hear from locals to inform features of the rail bridge and new open space, including walking and cycling connections and landscaping options.

In May and June 2019, we talked to the community about your vision and priorities for the new open space and station precincts. Your feedback will help shape the final design.

Later this year, we’ll be back out in the community to provide more details and ask for further input on the elevated rail line, station precincts and design of the open space.

Feedback will be considered along with local constraints, including:

  • the narrow corridor
  • drainage basins required to manage stormwater
  • maintenance requirements
  • properties near the rail line.

Construction on this vital project for the inner north will begin in 2019, with boom gates removed in 2020.
