The land at 1136 – 1138 Nepean Highway, Highett has been determined surplus to the Victorian Government’s current and future requirements. The Department of Treasury and Finance has requested that the planning provisions for the site be changed to reflect that it is no longer required for public use. The site was previously used as a gas manufacturing and distribution plant which ceased operation in 1969. It has been extensively cleared of the buildings and equipment associated with its former use aside from the remnant chimney. The site has an area of approximately 6.3 hectares and is bound by residential development, Frankston Railway line, Sir William Fry Reserve, Moorabbin Justice Centre and Nepean Highway.
The Minister for Planning has referred the proposal to the independent Government Land Standing Advisory Committee for consideration and to provide recommendations on the suitability of the proposed planning scheme changes below:
|Current planning scheme controls||Proposed planning scheme controls|

|NEW Residential Growth Zone - Schedule 2|
|Overlays||Design and Development Overlay - Schedule 12||Delete DDO12|
