North East Water have applied for a works approval to upgrade their existing Tallangatta waste water treatment plant to cater for future demands.

Latest update

On 10 December 2019 , EPA determined the application and issued a works approval with conditions. A copy of the works approval and a summary of the assessment can be found in the 'Supporting documents' section on this page.

What does the application propose?

The proposed works include decommissioning the current mechanical treatment system at Thomas Mitchell Drive and replacing it with a lagoon system within the premise’s existing boundaries to prepare for the town’s future growth.

North East Water has projected growth to the year 2040 will increase the average daily flows from 312kL to 502kL resulting in an additional 70ML of waste water a year.

The proposed lagoon system has been designed to contain the projected maximum peak flow of 1100kL/day.

The proposed system will continue to treat wastewater to Class C standard for reuse.

A community drop-in session was held on 24 September at Tallangatta Library Community Space.

Submissions closed 9 October.
