What does the application propose?

The proposed protein recovery facility (PRF) will convert animal by-product into stable, usable materials including tallow, oil and protein rich meal.

The proposal will consist of five individual plants (one for each protein source), three boiler houses, five biofilters, an administration building, a workshop and tallow bulk liquid storage tank farms.

The PRF operations will be housed in fully enclosed buildings employing a combination of full building capture and process air extraction systems, with all captured process odours treated in biofilter systems.

Conceptual design of the facility has the capacity to process up to 51 tonnes of animal by-product per hour of operation. The facility will accept by-products from bovine, ovine, poultry, feathers, fish and other animal processing industries.

The proposed PRF will operate up to 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
