The Building Act 1993 authorises the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) to prepare and approve codes of conduct for building practitioners.

The VBA has prepared a draft Code of Conduct for Building Surveyors and is now seeking feedback from stakeholders on the draft Code.

The draft Code will promote safety and quality in the building and construction industry. It will also build trust and public confidence in the building surveying profession.

The VBA welcomes contributions from:

  • building surveyors
  • consumers
  • building industry associations
  • building practitioners, and
  • other professionals.

The draft Code of Conduct for Building Surveyors

The draft code outlines the expected standard of professional conduct that building surveyors must meet.

There are eight core principles of behaviour that promote safety and competence in the building and construction industry. Under each core principle there are rules and examples to help building surveyors understand their obligations and apply the Code.

All building surveyors in Victoria will be required to comply with the code of conduct. Any contravention of the code of conduct may result in disciplinary action.

Once approved, the code of conduct will be published in the Victoria Government Gazette and made available on the VBA website.
