The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) are developing a strategic master plan to guide recreation investment in the Buckland Valley State Forest, North East Victoria. The development process will support Taungurung Traditional Owner rights and aspirations for the Buckland Valley and the master plan responds to community and land manager feedback to support a diverse recreation offer, increase amenity, access and enjoyment of the Buckland Valley State Forest.

This is your opportunity to provide feedback on the draft master plan to help direct investment and prioritise facilities and activities to support your use and enjoyment of the area.

This project is being funded by Victoria's Great Outdoors, a $105.6 million investment in better walking trails,  4WD tracks, campgrounds and visitor facilities, boosting regional tourism and making it easier for Victorians to enjoy nature.

What you have told us so far

Throughout November and December 2021, DELWP hosted a community survey to gather information about how people value and use the Buckland Valley State Forest. We received 425 responses.

The feedback identified the natural values of the valley are important. While access to facilities such as toilets and signage do support the visitor experience, respondents suggested that infrastructure should not interfere with the sense of peace, freedom and remoteness of the campgrounds. Feedback also identified opportunities for greater connectivity of tracks and trails with existing points of interest, in particular better catering for horse riding, walking and bike riding away from main vehicle traffic areas.

Answers to each question have been summarised and can be viewed at Buckland contribution summary report
